We
have approximately 40 purebred Cormo sheep. Cormo wool is excellent
for hand spinners interested in finer fibers and very soft yarn.
Counts are 64s to 70s, staple length 3 to 5 inches, and the locks
have very short, blunt tips. Cormo fleeces are bright white with consistent
fiber diameter, crimp and quality throughout. We also have approximately
75 half-Cormo crosses out of Merino-Targhee-Finn-Dorset and natural
colored ewes. Cormo blends beautifully with angora or silk to produce
an extremely soft yarn. It is also preferred by many felters.
All
our half-Merino sheep are by our magnificent herd sire, Martin. His wool is 19.3 microns with nearly
“0” itch factor--the softest of the soft! Our crosses all show the
influence of the Merino blood with increased softness and length with
a bold, even crimp. Our Merino wool is so soft and silky that you
will want to wear it next to your skin. It is the perfect choice for
baby clothes and blankets. Counts are 64s to 80s with staple length
of 3 to 5 inches. We have approximately 60 Merino crosses to choose
from. Targhee
Finn/Dorset Approximately
100 of our sheep are half Targhee (or more). Our Finn/Dorset foundation
Targhee ram’s fleece won grand championships and his descendants show
the award-winning qualities in their fleeces. You will find our Targhee-cross
fleeces to have a bouncy soft hand with a tight, well-developed crimp
and excellent elasticity. A silky sheen and softness produced by loft
are the most obvious characteristics of Finn fleece. Natural Colored
Our
purebred Cormo ram, Snuffy consistently
produced black lambs from our natural colored ewes. With fewer than
20 to choose from, these natural-colored fleeces are the first ones
to sell out each year. Colors range from dark to light silver with
occasional variegated silver and white. Especially beautiful and unique,
are the fleeces from Chip and Cookie which are almost cocoa-colored.
At special wool shows and auctions, our fine natural colored fleeces
have sold for as much as $22.00 per pound! Buy direct from the farm
and save, but order early as supply is limited. Natural Colored
Medium Our
medium-grade Natural Colored wool comes from our Finn/Dorset/Targhee/Suffolk
crosses. Colors range from light to dark grey with some variegated.
Staples are 4” or longer. These fleeces are dense and springy with
some luster. For those wanting dark grey, we have some Romney/Corriedale
fleeces with long staple, even crimp and some luster. These medium-grade
fleeces are very spinner-friendly and are good choices for beginners.
